As the Ecommerce Merchandiser at Ooznest, you will be onboarding and managing product ranges, presenting them effectively in the online store and taking charge of optimising the customer journey. Your primary objective will be to increase conversion rates and average order value and to enhance customer satisfaction.

This new role is designed to meet the increasing demands of our markets and expanding product lines – particularly the new Aluminium Extrusion System range.

What you’ll be doing
As our Merchandiser, you will be the driving force behind the presentation and sale of our products – ensuring products are effectively showcased on our existing website as well as smoothly transitioning to the new website whilst maintaining brand integrity.

You will manage the database of our wide range of products between ERP and PIM systems with focus on technical specifications and attributes.

As the architect of the customer journey, you will be responsible for the end-to-end buying experience—from product discovery, to placing an order. You will ensure the website is user-friendly, categorising products logically to guide customers seamlessly through their purchasing decisions. Additionally, you will manage sales and promotions displays and tailor customer messages to enhance engagement and satisfaction.

You will collaborate closely with the owner who oversees buying and you will work in tandem with marketing and product development projects.

Through effective task management and data-driven insights, you’ll shape the future of our merchandising efforts.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic self-starter with proven success in ecommerce merchandising, demonstrated experience in managing and introducing many product lines and a solid understanding of customer behaviours and preferences in an ecommerce setting.

Key attributes you will need to possess are:

  • Customer-Centric: you possess an understanding of customer needs and expectations. With a passion for driving exceptional customer experiences, you consistently put yourself in the customer’s shoes to ensure they have all the necessary information presented clearly and accessibly, empowering them to make informed purchase decisions. You take customer feedback and integrate it into product presentation and the online journey. You aim to anticipate customer challenges and address them proactively.
  • Detail-Oriented and Data-Driven: you have a keen eye for detail and a strong analytical ability, essential for managing extensive product lines. You are proficient in using Excel for exporting and importing large data sets, ensuring seamless data management between ERP and PIM systems. Your will utilise data analysis to enhance and improve product presentation to the customer.
  • Technically minded: a clear understanding of mechanical components and their applications will allow you to grasp our extrusions systems and component kits and envision practical uses for them, therefore enabling you to present these products so customers have a clear understanding of what we offer, allowing them to make informed decisions.
  • Independent Self-Starter: you thrive with autonomy, demonstrating a proactive work style that includes setting your own tasks, deadlines, and objectives without direct supervision. Your ability to align these with the broader company strategies ensures you contribute effectively.

Main Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Strategy: Collaborate with our buying team on selecting product ranges, focusing on application, customer requirements, and market trends.
  • Sampling: Assist the buyer in sampling and testing new products. Looking at application, quality, price, and range fit.
  • Processes: Establish, optimise, and oversee the systematic procedures and workflows that underpin our product onboarding and management.
  • Onboarding: Manage the onboarding of products into our system including product names, categories, weights, dimensions, stocking units, lead times, delivery/returns information, attributes, drawings, and 3D Models. Ensure all technical aspects are meticulously covered.
  • Product Management: Continuously review and manage listings, to keep information accurate and up-to-date, making adjustments and updates as necessary to ensure all product details reflect current specifications and market conditions.
  • Presentation: Ensure our product presentation is visually appealing, informative and resonates with our brand. Including defining website categories, product grouping, product images, descriptions and graphics. Ensuring SEO best practises followed
  • Customer journey: Own the end-to-end customer journey, from browsing to checkout. Ensure a seamless navigation through categories, groupings and filtering. Oversee the integration of services, sales promotions, and targeted customer messaging to enhance the purchasing experience.
  • Customer Service and Feedback:Collaborate with the customer service team, looking at customer product queries, leveraging feedback to make improvements to product pages and informational accuracy.
  • Fulfilment: Define fulfilment and packing processes for products, making sure they are presented to the customer in the best way possible..
  • Analysis:Utilise site metrics, sales and trend data, and customer behaviour tracking to gain actionable insights to enhance conversion rates, increase revenue growth and improve user experience. Keep abreast of the latest online and ecommerce marketing trends to inform continuous optimisation
