ER Collets are the most popular system of collets used in machining. ER11 is the smallest of the ER range and has a clamping range of 0.5 – 8.0mm*.
The ER collet system has distinct advantages over other collet systems. They provide an even clamping force over the whole length of the collet, this is achieved because of the alternating slotting around the side. Also, the taper angles are specifically chosen to provide maximum clamping force. The design further provides the ability for each collet to have a wide clamping range of -0.5mm. In theory, having a set of collets in 1mm increments will allow every diameter of endmill to be used from 0.5 – 8mm.
These collets are made from spring steel to high precision. They have a runout of 0.008mm. They can be used with any router/spindle that uses the ER11 system, including the WorkBee Router Head.
*Caution should be taken when using an ER11 Collet larger than 7mm. Depending on the spindle in question, sometimes the shank of the endmill will not go into the spindle any further than the depth of the collet. Therefore care needs to be taken with the endmill stick-out length. This applies to our WorkBee Router Head.
