Wifi External Antenna Duet 2 Controller is a powerful standalone motion control board in the Duet3D range, designed for aluminium extrusion systems and other advanced motion control applications. Unlike the Duet 3 family, it does not support CAN-FD expansion boards or SBC connectivity, but instead provides everything you need for basic machinery in one complete package.
The board includes 5 integrated stepper drivers, high-current outputs, PWM outputs, and a range of I/O options. With Wifi networking built in, it can be easily accessed and controlled from any device with a browser without requiring additional hardware.
Although originally developed with 3D printing in mind, the Duet 2 Controller is highly adaptable, making it suitable for any application requiring precise and reliable motion control.
Key Features
- Powerful Processing: ARM Cortex-M4F microcontroller for fast, reliable performance.
- Network Connectivity: Wifi interface for reliable communication and control.
- High-Performance Drivers: 5x TMC2660 stepper drivers with advanced motion control features.
- Comprehensive I/O: Multiple PWM outputs and configurable I/O pins for wide application use.
- Proven Reliability: A well-established controller ideal for basic multi-axis systems.
RepRapFirmware
RepRapFirmware is a powerful and flexible firmware designed to run on 32-bit ARM controllers. Configuration is handled entirely through human-readable G-code files stored on the SD card, no recompilation required. The firmware supports hundreds of G-code commands, detailed here: https://docs.duet3d.com/User_manual/Reference/Gcodes
Key capabilities include:
- An object model of machine configuration and state, enabling dynamic access to a wide variety of values.
- Conditional and looping G-code for advanced automation.
- Compatibility with all common kinematics, plus the ability to define custom kinematics.
RepRapFirmware is paired with Duet Web Control (DWC), a full-featured, browser-based interface for configuration and machine management. DWC adapts to your machine setup, providing intuitive access to controls, monitoring, and job management. Users can also extend functionality with custom third-party plugins, making it easy to tailor the interface to specific requirements.

A great bit of kit. It took a bit of reading on how to configure it for my set up. There were a couple of problems like riprap configuration was giving the home position as X0, Y0, Z0 and in fact Duet was configured X0, Y0, Z5. The riprap code page was very helpful but I had to resort to Duet forums for help because there were a lot of updates like coding a reverse signal fr my Z probe ie: I1 is now just ! etc. I have installed my Duet3d board in a desktop computer case with external mounted JST sockets making it portable and you ld be used to upgrade another printer. I also needed something that would run a hot end upto 300C. I am using a thermocouple in preference to a thermistor to monitor high temperatures. I had a problem with the DWC keep disconnect from my net work, I checked my router channel set up and found it was set to channel six. I changed it to auto channel and now works great.

Haven’t used it to print yet but have connected it to the internet which was really easy. The layout and access to connections seems so much better than the RAMPS board I am used to.

I really like the simplicity of this controller, easy to connect to wifi network. And you dont have to have a computer running when the machine is working.
Its also extremely easy to update things in the code compare to controllers that you
Have to compile and upload firmware via arduino ide. This is a big big plus.
You only need a webbrowser to controll the machine:)

The Duet2 is a complete and easy to use 3D printer or CNC controller among other things. The web based interface is a breeze to control and no problem to set up even with the wireless option. Using YAT to setup your SSID and stuff is easier than I thought and went seamlessly with the two boards that I bought. One controls a WorkBee and the other is going into a self built 3D printer. I have been using the Duet 0.6 version controller on a 3D printer for 5 years now and it goes on and on without a hiccup.
Being able to update the firmware and config files on the fly, use the printer stand alone and log in from anywhere and control from your phone is just the bees knees. Worth ever penny. You get a solid hardware platform to build the most demanding printers or CNC machines. Expandable architecture allows for future proofing giving the potential for 7 extruder heads. Along with the base being a 32bit arm processor which gives lovely quiet operation and high precision control over the Steppers and, because it all hangs of this well established production of Due boards, this combination gives a whopping power throughput of 18A, 15A to the heat bed alone. All in all these boards are worth their money and it supports local industries “to boot”!

Compared to the trigorilla board that came with my printer (anycubic kossel), this is miles better in terms of quality. Not fully installed yet, but servos are much quieter and LEDs are very useful for checking the limits.
