LASER CUT LONDON INSTAGRAM
So apart from a few insta stories I haven't exactly posted much of late..again it's a time based thing, and I have been working flat out on numerous projects to get them completed since the Brit awards pieces were finished.

I had forseen this current situation and advised my clients to expedite their projects to a finalised state over 4 weeks ago and focused on that rather than Instagram. And despite being told I needed a tin foil hat by many, I'm glad many of my clients trusted me enough. The last project was dispatched on Monday. Which means I can now take a short break to recover from zero days off in the last month. 16hr days were the norm and with the upcoming release of #doometernal I think a few xbox days are needed.

The images are from a great little commission to design and make a series of 10 awards for @iamhalsey and her team for her first sellout show @theo2london

I should imagine that this kind of work will likely quiet off for a little while until the venue is able to host large volumes of people again. But if you need anything let me know.
I have personally always run a lean business model, and will make sure that I'm still around for when all this ugliness decides to retreat from whence it came.

I will continue to work and keep working as long as is possible, and even though many of my customers have seen their work fall off the face of the earth, I have always made sure to be spread across multiple industries. I also have a backup studio at home should I ever need to retreat and get small again. But that's only a last resort. Lasercut.London is about to Start it's 7th year in May, and I intend to have a 10th birthday party in 3 years!

Currently I'm exploring many new possibilities to do alongside my clients that are still going, and will do everything I can to support those who have helped me over the last 7 years.

I hope you are all safe and are prepared, much love to you all... And I will continue to now spam Instagram with all the photos on my phone from the last few weeks πŸ˜‚πŸ“±πŸ˜‰ #fuckcorona #halsey #lasercutlondon #keeponkeepingon #wartimementality #embraceyourstrongside #prepare #care #love #award #design #make #create #believe

Render vs reality... And the importance of realistic designs. As there was no time to build a physical prototype of the award and the time lines were very tight, we utilised our #fusion360 experience to help deliver our presentation and pre planning, Including utilising the Web preview function for the client. This enabled them to navigate the 3D model on their Web browser, which is where the importance of the scale coke can comes in. Its been nearly 5 years since @fuseps changed my life with @adskfusion360 and I have never looked back.

I operate on a designed for manufacture principle, designing within the bounds of available materials and the equipment physically on hand.

I also look at it even during the concept phase with a project management hat on. Searching out material availability and looking for problems such as long lead time materials. This stops me presenting ideas that the client loves, but cannot be delivered. Nothing could be worse than having to explain that what you have designed and presented cannot be made. So I never go there! Happy customers recommend you to their peers.

All in all, from sign-off we had 7 physical Days to source materials and produce these. And pre designing every component in Fusion 360 allows us to design it in such a way that it all came together like a puzzle. All major components were cnc machined, to allow them to have a seamless exterior, yet register the parts perfectly. Marrying acrylic, corian and richlite together in a way that also helped to eliminate things like glue squeeze out and create mechanical locks rather than purely relying on adhesive bond.

The best part about designing in 3D is being able to properly visually communicate your ideas to other team members. I have flappy hand syndrome... Which basically means I'm overly descriptive with my hands when explaining.. Often my brain is running faster than my hands... One of the projects that has kept me Away from social media (and home) was an amazing commission to concept, design and create 8 of these awards to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Brits at The O2. It was quite a challenging brief as the idea was to integrate the last decade of award designs from people such as Tracy Emmin, Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor and bring them all together. The concept to monotone the designs to link them all was hatched, and sketches and 3d renders were made. We utilised materials such as @richlite for the bases and capping, that were supported by Corian solid surface material on the sides. We utilises the @perspex_brand range of acrylics for the main flat areas and most importantly the sliced Brit award. Slicing and deconstructing things has always been a trait of my design work, and on this occasion I wanted people to move around the award. So I referenced the 10 years with 10 slices and set them in such a way that when viewed correctly they re combined into the award again. I had a little under 10 days from being asked to design them, to physically Delivering them. And I can't thank. @marcswain_designs and @katiebullerillustration enough for being by my side during the creation and design sides of the production. I'm very proud of the two of them as the hours it took to create everything was astronomical! Every single machine and tool in the studio was used to bring it all together, from @adskfusion360 to concept, to the laser, 3d printers, cnc, and direct to surface uv printer. So happy it's all been delivered.. Sadly the other project we worked on cannot be put up, but they were equally as awesome as these! #lasercutlondon #design #create #vision #award #london #recognition #clients #bespoke #branding #perspex #uvprinting #directtosurface #richlite #celebrate #theo2 #thebrits #heavy #goodandfastaintcheap #creative #designstudio
