Multi-extrusion is the next big step in 3D Printing, and that possibility is now a reality. E3D have designed a range of modular dual extrusion hotends which opens up the realm of printing a wide range of different colours and materials in a single print.
E3D's multi-extrusion systems share the same core design principles:

Chimera is a very convenient way to add dual extrusion capabilities to your 3D printer. Chimera uses a simple air cooled heatsink, with two independent nozzle outputs. The height of each nozzle can be adjusted independently, and each have individual temperature control. Chimera uses the same heater blocks seen on the v6, with super fast heat up times, and tight temperature control. This combination, and a tiny 30x28mm footprint, makes a highly capable reliable hotend.
Dual extrusion 3D Printing opens up brand new possibilities with 3D Printers not seen before. With dual extrusion you can print multiple colours, multiple materials, and dedicated support material in a single process. Multi-material printing is where dual extrusion really shines, imagine being able to print a wheel in a single print with a carbon fibre core, and rubber tyre. Support material will also be a thing of the past, no longer are the supports printed in the same material as your print, support material can now be printed in dis-solvable materials, picking away plastic is an ancient process.
Chimera shares many similar parts to the Cyclops. This means you can easily swap between the two with minimum hassle.
By using a Chimera you get access to the whole range of e3d v6 products. The Chimera is compatible with a wide range of nozzles sizes, from super small 0.25mm to the large 0.8mm. The nozzle geometries have been tailored to improve fine details with smaller nozzles, and quicker large extrusions with the bigger nozzles.
Not only are brass nozzles available, but also hardened steel nozzles, these allow for wear free abrasive material printing.
The Chimera can also be upgraded with high temperature sensors like the PT100 and K-Type thermocouple
Volcano heater blocks can also be attached to the Chimera for super fast large format 3d printing.
Chimera brings an easy way to get into dual extrusion 3D Printing. Chimera can be mounted on the top or rear face using only 3 x M3 screws. The multiple mounting options available make is easy to design mounts for nearly every machine including deltas, horizontal carriages, and vertical carriages.
Sliding adjustable heat breaks makes setting the nozzle height amazingly simple. The height can be simply set with 2 grubs two make each nozzle precisely level with respect to each other. This simple process ensures that nozzles do not interfere with the object being printed.
Nearly every slicer and firmware now support dual extrusion out of the box. Repetier-host, Cura, and Repetier firmware have all been tested with great results. It is now standard for electronics boards to now have at least 5 motor outputs to support dual extrusion. The tried and tested RAMPS 1.4 will do nicely.
The Chimera comes in two variants, the standard air cooled, that offers outstanding performance for most applications. The second option is water cooled, this a light weight, compact, and quiet system, that allows you to run your hotend in the most hottest of ambient environments without it skipping a beat. Compatible with the water cooling kit, and standard pc water cooling components, this is the latest and greatest modification for your 3D Printer. The chimera is soo compact, and lightweight, that i should be considered as the solution to your V6 Watercooling needs.
Although dual extrusion has been made as simple as it can be by e3d, it is still a new thing. The software and electronics are simple to setup, but you should be aware that there is a learning curve with regards to the best techniques, settings, and procedures to produce them perfect prints.
